This is a working overview of mass spectrometry, written for readers who want more than a one-paragraph summary but less than a textbook.

Proposed activity centers on actin sequestration and on the movement of cells during repair processes. In cell culture and animal models, the fragment has been associated with migration, tube formation, and tissue remodeling. These observations are frequently described as preliminary, because most published work uses rodent or in vitro systems rather than controlled human trials. Whether the short fragment reproduces the effects of the full protein remains an open question, and the relationship between dose, route, and measured outcome is not well characterized.
The compound circulates in the literature as a research reagent rather than an approved therapeutic. Regulatory agencies in several countries have not authorized it for medical use, and sporting bodies list related thymosin beta-4 peptides among prohibited substances. Suppliers typically market it with a purity figure and a certificate of analysis, while peer-reviewed clinical reports remain sparse. Discussions therefore often separate laboratory findings from anecdotal reports, and reviewers tend to note the small size and methodological limits of the available studies.
TB-500 refers to a synthetic peptide fragment derived from the actin-binding region of thymosin beta-4, a protein present in most mammalian cells. The full protein contains forty-three amino acids, while the commonly sold fragment is a much shorter acetylated sequence, often cited as LKKTETQ. The fragment retains part of the actin-binding motif but lacks the remainder of the parent protein. Material sold under this name is usually lyophilized powder intended for laboratory research, and it is not a finished pharmaceutical product.
Detection in biological samples relies on mass spectrometry, typically liquid chromatography coupled to tandem mass spectrometry after peptide extraction and enrichment. Intact peptides can also be confirmed by high-resolution mass measurement together with fragmentation data. Detection windows in urine are short because the peptide is degraded by proteases and cleared quickly, and concentrations are low. Many jurisdictions treat the compound as a prohibited substance in sport, grouped with peptide hormones and related factors, while it is not an approved therapeutic product. Identity and purity statements therefore rest on certificates of analysis, ideally issued by an independent laboratory.
Material is normally supplied as a lyophilised powder in a sealed vial. The powder is hygroscopic, so exposure to humid air leads to water uptake, caking and gradual loss of the fluffy texture that indicates a good freeze-dry. Vials are best kept sealed with desiccant, protected from light and stored cold. Letting a cold vial warm to room temperature before opening reduces condensation on the contents. Purity is normally reported from a chromatographic run, and that figure applies to the batch as tested rather than to the vial after repeated opening.

No major regulatory agency has approved TB-500 for therapeutic use, and it holds no pharmacopoeial monograph. The name appears on the World Anti-Doping Agency prohibited list within the class covering peptide hormones, growth factors, and related substances. Detection in doping control relies on mass spectrometric methods applied to urine, often after preparation steps that concentrate the analyte. Discussion of TB-500 therefore clusters in biochemistry, sports medicine, and anti-doping literature rather than in registered clinical trials.
TB-500 is a synthetic peptide preparation marketed under a name derived from thymosin beta-4, a 43-residue actin-binding protein first isolated from thymus tissue. The full-length protein has a reported molecular mass near 4963 Da, while material sold as TB-500 is often described as a fragment containing the actin-binding motif LKKTETQ. Because suppliers use the name inconsistently, published sources sometimes refer to the same label as a fragment, a synthetic copy, or a related analog. This naming ambiguity complicates direct comparison of reports across studies.
Full-length thymosin beta-4 consists of roughly forty-three amino acids and ranks among the more abundant small proteins in the cytoplasm. The fragment is much shorter, so it cannot reproduce every function attributed to the intact molecule. In cell culture, short actin-binding motifs can interfere with filament dynamics and cell movement, but such observations come from controlled experiments rather than from whole-animal work. Whether a truncated fragment produces the same effects as the parent protein remains an open question.
Interest in the peptide grew during the 2000s and 2010s, when studies of tendon and ligament injuries in horses reported changes in lesion size after treatment. Those reports circulated widely outside the scientific literature and shaped much of the current online discussion. Subsequent reviews noted inconsistent study design, small groups, and a shortage of independent replication. Popular descriptions often blur the line between the fragment, the complete protein, and unrelated growth factors, which complicates comparisons across sources.
TB-500 is a synthetic peptide whose sequence corresponds to a short fragment near the N-terminus of thymosin beta-4, a small protein present in most mammalian cells. The fragment is commonly cited as containing the actin-binding region of the parent molecule, which is why it appears in laboratory work on cell migration and tissue repair. Suppliers distribute it as a lyophilised powder intended for research use. Its identity is defined by amino acid sequence and by the presence of an acetyl group on the N-terminal residue.
Controlled human trials of the short fragment are scarce. Much of what appears in review articles is extrapolated from animal models or from studies of the parent protein, and literature searches return a larger body of cardiac and ophthalmic work on thymosin beta-4 than on the abbreviated peptide. Regulatory treatment differs by jurisdiction, and in several countries the material is handled as a research chemical rather than an approved therapeutic. Statements about human benefit should be read as provisional.
Biological interest in this peptide centers on its relationship to actin dynamics. Thymosin beta-4 binds monomeric actin through an LKKTET motif, and a short sequence carrying that motif can compete with other actin-binding proteins in cell-free preparations. Investigators propose that such competition shifts the balance between filament assembly and disassembly, which in turn affects how readily a cell extends protrusions and migrates. Most of the supporting observations come from cultured cells and purified protein systems rather than from intact organisms.
Published work involving this sequence spans actin-binding assays, cell-migration studies, wound-healing models, and cardiovascular or musculoskeletal experiments. Much of the biological rationale derives from in vitro systems and animal models, and the number of controlled human studies is small. Reported outcomes vary across preparations, doses, and routes, which complicates comparison between studies. Reviews generally describe the evidence base as preliminary rather than settled. Mechanistic explanations are often proposed by analogy to the parent protein rather than demonstrated directly.
TB-500 is a synthetic seven-amino-acid peptide with the sequence LKKTETQ, corresponding to residues 17 through 23 of the protein thymosin beta-4. The N-terminus is typically acetylated in the described form, giving a monoisotopic mass near 888.5 Da and an average mass of about 889 Da. The designation TB-500 is a catalogue label rather than a formal chemical name, and the same sequence appears in the literature under several alternative abbreviations. It is handled as a research reagent rather than a pharmaceutical product.
In April 2010, the library announced plans to archive all public communication on Twitter, including all communication since Twitter's launch in March 2006. As of 2015, the Twitter archive remains unfinished. Before retiring in 2015, after 28 years of service, Billington had come "under pressure" as librarian of Congress. This followed a GAO report that described a "work environment lacking central oversight" and faulted Billington for "ignoring repeated calls to hire a chief information officer, as required by law." When Billington announced his plans to retire in 2015, commentator George Weigel described the Library of Congress as "one of the last refuges in Washington of serious bipartisanship and calm, considered conversation", and "one of the world's greatest cultural centers".
In popular health and wellness trends, the term "detoxification" or "detox" is often used in reference to special diets, supplements, or products that claim to remove toxins from the body. However, the body already removes harmful substances naturally. Organs such as the liver, kidneys, gastrointestinal tract, lungs, and skin work together to get rid of chemicals and waste. Scientific reviews have found limited evidence supporting the effectiveness of commercial "detox" diets or cleansing regimens, because the body's systems do this work every day. The diagram shows a simplified version of the physiological process of metabolism and excretion. Xenobiotic exposure can occur in different ways through different routes. Orally ingested compounds first pass through the gastrointestinal tract and gut microbiome where some xenobiotics can be metabolized before entering the bloodstream, while inhaled, intravenous, or dermal exposures enter circulation more directly. In the bloodstream, xenobiotics are transported to the liver, which acts as the primary site of metabolic detoxification. In hepatocytes, compounds undergo enzymatic transformation in two main phases: Phase I reactions (often mediated by cytochrome P450 enzymes) introduce functional groups, and Phase II reactions conjugate these compounds to increase water solubility and facilitate elimination. In Phase III, metabolites are transported and excreted from the body. The kidneys eliminate many substances in urine, while others are secreted into bile and excreted in feces after intestinal processing.
Those with a narrow margin are more difficult to dose and administer, and may require therapeutic drug monitoring (examples are warfarin, some antiepileptics, aminoglycoside antibiotics). Most anti-cancer drugs have a narrow therapeutic margin: toxic side-effects are almost always encountered at doses used to kill tumors. The effect of drugs can be described with Loewe additivity which is one of several common reference models. Other models include the Hill equation, Cheng–Prusoff equation and Schild regression.
== History == Teicoplanin was first isolated in 1978 from Actinoplanes teichomyceticus (ATCC 31121), a rare species of actinobacteria in the family Micromonosporaceae. The bacteria were obtained from a soil sample collected in Nimodi Village, Indore, India. The chemical structure of teicoplanin was determined and published in 1984. Teicoplanin was first introduced into clinical use in 1984. Following the publication of studies demonstrating its efficacy against infections such as bone and soft tissue infections, endocarditis, pneumonia, and sepsis in 1986, it received regulatory approval in Europe in 1988. The biosynthetic pathway leading to teicoplanin, as well as the regulatory circuit governing the biosynthesis, were studied intensively in recent years, allowing for the creation of an integrated model of its biosynthesis.
== Clinical symptoms == Most cases of SRIF are discovered incidentally by pathologists examining lung tissue from lungs that have been removed surgically from patients with lung cancer. These patients generally have no symptoms attributable to fibrosis, although they may have symptoms attributable to emphysema (COPD), which is a common abnormality in smokers with lung cancer. A few cases of SRIF in which patients were seen by doctors because of cough and shortness of breath have also been reported. These patients were all heavy smokers and considered to have a form of interstitial lung disease. Most were in their 40s and had abnormalities in pulmonary function tests, most commonly reduced diffusion capacity for carbon monoxide (DLCO). Their symptoms generally remained stable (did not worsen) over up to 10 years of follow-up.

=== Pharmacokinetics === Clonazepam is lipid-soluble, rapidly crosses the blood–brain barrier, and penetrates the placenta. It is extensively metabolised into pharmacologically inactive metabolites, with only 2% of the unchanged drug excreted in the urine. Clonazepam is metabolized extensively via nitroreduction by cytochrome P450 enzymes, including CYP3A4. Erythromycin, clarithromycin, ritonavir, itraconazole, ketoconazole, nefazodone, cimetidine, and grapefruit juice are inhibitors of CYP3A4 and can affect the metabolism of benzodiazepines. It has an elimination half-life of 19–60 hours. Peak blood concentrations of 6.5–13.5 ng/mL were usually reached within 1–2 hours following a single 2 mg oral dose of micronized clonazepam in healthy adults. In some individuals, however, peak blood concentrations were reached at 4–8 hours. Clonazepam passes rapidly into the central nervous system, with levels in the brain corresponding with levels of unbound clonazepam in the blood serum. Clonazepam plasma levels are very unreliable amongst patients. Plasma levels of clonazepam can vary as much as tenfold between different patients. Clonazepam has plasma protein binding of 85%. Clonazepam passes through the blood–brain barrier easily, with blood and brain levels corresponding equally with each other. The metabolites of clonazepam include 7-aminoclonazepam, 7-acetaminoclonazepam and 3-hydroxy clonazepam. These metabolites are excreted by the kidney. It is effective for 6–8 hours in children, and 8–12 hours in adults.
He declared the intention to pursue an "independent foreign policy", and strengthened relations with China and Russia and also oversaw the controversial burial of Ferdinand Marcos, the siege of Marawi, and the government's response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Duterte praised the Armed Forces of the Philippines for their role in national security and disaster response, particularly highlighting their efforts during the siege of Marawi and in providing humanitarian assistance during natural calamities. Duterte's popularity and domestic approval rating remained relatively high throughout his presidency, and by the end of his term he was the most popular president since the 1986 revolution. He initially announced his candidacy for vice president in the 2022 election; in October 2021, he said he was retiring from politics. The next month, he filed his candidacy for senator but withdrew it on December 14. Duterte's political positions have been described as populist and nationalist. Duterte became known for his political ideology of Dutertismo. His political success has been aided by his vocal support for the extrajudicial killing of drug users and criminals. Duterte is allegedly the founder and head of the Davao Death Squad, a vigilante squad of gangsters and former police that summarily executed more than 1,400 people by 2016. Duterte has admitted to personally killing suspected criminals, and the usage of death squad. His career has sparked numerous protests and attracted controversy, particularly over human rights issues and his controversial comments.
In August 2026, Disney and TikTok announced a content-sharing partnership that will allow participating TikTok creators to use approved material from Disney films and television programs in their videos. Selected creator videos will also be featured within Disney+ through its Verts mobile video section. The initiative includes content related to Disney properties such as Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar, and FX, and is expected to begin as a pilot in the United States before potentially expanding to other markets.
=== Safety === In general, somatostatin receptor antagonists were noted to be well tolerated. However, due to its mechanism of action, it may decrease the effectiveness of SSA therapy (Somatostatin Analogue Therapy), however other studies indicate SSA may not need to be stopped if somatostatin antagonists are used to label tumors instead of agonists. As somatostatin can cause inhibition of hormone production that uses it as a mediating hormone, it has an antiproliferative effect on cell tumors, especially in neuroendocrine tumors. Somatostatin analogue therapy uses longer-acting agonists than the endogenous somatostatin to extend the antiproliferative effects. Somatostatin receptor antagonists can bind to the receptors without activating them , antagonizing the therapeutic inhibitory effects of SSA therapy. Slow intravenous injection might be used until further safety data becomes available.
The other main memorial is the SAS and Airborne Forces memorial in the cloisters at Westminster Abbey. The SAS Brigade Memorial at Sennecey-le-Grand in France commemorates the wartime dead of the Belgian, British and French SAS and recently a memorial plaque was added to the David Stirling Memorial in Scotland. There are other smaller memorials "scattered throughout Europe and in the Far East". The local church of St Martin's, Hereford has part of its graveyard set aside as an SAS memorial; over twenty SAS soldiers are buried there. There is also a wall of remembrance displaying memorial plaques to some who could not be buried, including the 18 SAS men who lost their lives in the Sea King helicopter crash during the Falklands Campaign on 19 May 1982 and a sculpture and stained glass window dedicated to the SAS. On 17 October 2017 Ascension, a new sculpture and window honouring the Special Air Service Regiment in Hereford Cathedral, was dedicated by the Bishop of Hereford at a service attended by Prince William.

== Epidemiology == The most common cause of Bornholm disease, Coxsackie B virus, is shed in large amounts in the feces of infected persons and is spread primarily through the fecal-oral route. Respiratory secretions and oral-oral methods have also shown to be modes of transmission. In previous cases the disease has been spread by sharing drink containers, and has been contracted by laboratory personnel working with the virus. The pharynx is typically the initial site for entering the body, however the virus will proliferate in lymphatic tissues and use the blood stream to reach the muscles and produce symptoms. Preventative measures to decrease transmission of the virus causing Bornholm disease emphasize hand hygiene. In previous studies of Bornholm disease the majority of the patients affected were children.
=== Abortion === On June 24, 2022, minutes after the Supreme Court issued its decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization, which overturned the constitutional abortion protections in Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey, Schmitt issued a declaration that his office would enforce a law passed in 2019 that effectively banned abortion in Missouri.
A farmer, George Smith, working under landlord the Duke of Gordon, was the first person in Scotland to take out a licence for a distillery under the new act, founding the Glenlivet Distillery in 1824, to make single malt Scotch. Some of the distilleries which started legal operations in the next few years included Bowmore, Strathisla, Balblair, and Glenmorangie; all remain in business today. Two events helped to increase whisky's popularity. The first was the introduction in 1831 of the column still. Aeneas Coffey patented a refined version of a design originally created by Robert Stein, based on early innovations by Anthony Perrier, for the new type of still which produced whisky much more efficiently than the traditional pot stills. The column still allowed for continuous distillation, without the need for cleaning after each batch was made. This process made manufacturing more affordable by performing the equivalent of multiple distillation steps. The new still dramatically increased production and the resultant whisky was less intense and smoother, making it more popular. Secondly, there was a shortage of wine and brandy in France, significant by 1880, due to phylloxera, a parasitic insect, destroying many vineyards, which led to a surge in demand for whisky. By the 1890s, almost forty new distilleries had opened in Scotland. In a speculative boom, the Edinburgh blenders Pattisons Ltd. came to prominence before spectacularly failing. In the downturn, The Distillers Company were able to buy up other firms' assets.

TB-500 is a name used for a short synthetic peptide fragment taken from the actin-binding region of thymosin beta-4. Material sold under this label is usually a lyophilized powder supplied for laboratory research rather than a licensed medicine. The commonly cited sequence is LKKTETQ.
The parent protein contains forty-three amino acids, while the fragment carries only a short motif from one region. The fragment can interact with actin in vitro, but it does not include the rest of the protein structure. Whether the shorter molecule behaves the same way in living systems is not settled.
Published controlled human studies are scarce, and most activity reports come from cell culture or animal models. Reviews often describe the evidence base as limited and methodologically uneven. Open questions include the relationship between route, dose, and measured outcomes.
Sealed, dry and protected from light at reduced temperature is the usual laboratory convention. Allowing a cold vial to reach room temperature before opening limits condensation. Repeated opening exposes the powder to moisture and should be minimised.
